SPRING CONFERENCE TO BE HELD AT HAMPDEN-SYDNEY COLLEGE

APRIL 19, 2008

The Virginia Conference will meet at Hampden-Sydney College on Saturday, April 19, 2009. The Conference meeting will feature updates on committee activities.

CONFERENCE SCHEDULE

• 9:30 am Executive Committee Meeting (Rare Book Room, Top Floor, Hampden-Sydney College Library, 30 on campus map)
• 11:00 am Conference Meeting, Agenda (Rare Book Room, Top Floor, Hampden-Sydney College Library).
• 12:30 pm Luncheon Buffet at Pannill Commons, Settle Hall (25 on campus map). The charge will be $5.50.

Luncheon Speaker: Dr Maike Philipsen, Professor of Foundations of Education, Virginia Commonwealth University, “Challenges of the Faculty Career for Women”

• 2:00 pm Conference Meeting resumes (if necessary)

PARKING

• Parking is available in the lots between the Library and Settle Hall.

LODGING

• Lodging is available within a ten minute drive of campus. Five rooms have been set aside for April 18 at the Comfort Inn (2108 S. Main St. US 15 & US 460 Bypass , Farmville, VA 23901 Phone: (434) 392-8163) immediately off the exit from 460 to Hampden-Sydney. The rate is $89.99. The hotel requests confirmation by Wednesday the 16th. Please reference the “State AAUP meeting” when making reservations (confirmation number 204872).

Upcoming Event: UMW's Conference on Faculty Governance in Higher Education

University of Mary Washington's College of Graduate and Professional Studies, University Hall, on Friday, September 26, 2008.

Speakers include Dr. Mary Burgan, author of several books including, What Ever Happened To The Faculty? Drift and Decision in Higher Education and Illness, Gender, and Writing: The Case of Katherine Mansfield. Dr. Burgan is also a former General Secretary of the American Associate of University Professors.
